Our Achievements

The Cantabile Choir proudly received the following recognitions:

    Cantabile at Legends, Surfers Paradise

  • Recently, Cantabile's director, Susan Gouchee, was selected as a prize winner in the teacher categories of the 2007 National Awards for Excellence in School Music Education. She was selected from a competetive field of high quality nominations from across Australia.
  • In 2006, Cantabile competed at the World Choir Games (formerly The Choir Olympics), at Xiamen China, again earning 3 Silver Medals from the three categories entered. Cantabile were also selected as one of five featured choirs to perform at the Opening Ceremony, before 8000 people and a live television audience of millions. Cantabile also provided soloists for the opening and closing ceremonies (Megan Saunders & Amelia DeVita).
  • Cantabile competed at the 2004 Choir Olympics, held in Bremen, Germany. The Olympics involved nearly 20,000 singers from 84 countries. Cantabile competed in the Youth Choirs of Equal Voices, Popular Music and Gospel Music. The young choir competed against a field of the finest youth and adult choirs in the world and were awarded Three Silver Medals, one for each section! The choir were the first Australian choir to ever be awarded a Choir Olympic medal and were delighted to successfully represent their country.
  • Appointed Honorary Ambassadors for the Queensland Government by the State Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading and Wine, Mrs. Margaret Keech. This is the first time ever that an Ambassadorship has been awarded to a school.
  • In 2005 Cantabile was privileged to work with Opera Queensland and both groups are eager to continue this unique partnership.
  • Cantabile were selected as feature artist for Sing for Water, the culminating event of River Festival.
  • In November 2003, Cantabile was the only school group from Queensland invited to perform at the National Gospel Happening (NGH) in Canberra, an enormous festival that attracts performers of Christian music from across the nation and overseas.
  • In October 2002, Cantabile travelled to Busan, Korea to compete in the Second Choir Olympics, the largest choral competition in the world. Cantabile was the only choir to represent Australia at the Choir Olympics and were awarded fifth place in the Youth Choirs of Equal Voices section within the Olympic competition.
  • Performed at the Opening Ceremony of the Goodwill Games
  • Awarded “Most Outstanding Secondary School Choir” at the Gold Coast Tropicarnival Eisteddfod in 2001.
  • In February 2000, Cantabile auditioned and were accepted to compete at the Vienna Youth and Music Festival. They competed amongst an extensive field of female choirs from countries including China, Hong Kong, USA, Australia, Romania, Iceland, Canada, Croatia and Denmark. They were awarded Third Place overall – an incredible achievement for such a young choir.
